Case Study – HydroFlex Fuel Cell Train Integration

CUSTOMER CHALLENGE
- Hypermotive’s rail customer had chosen to strategically develop an innovative Hydrogen powered train suitable for use on UK mainline rail.
- Hypermotive was approached and engaged to provide expert technical services in the field of Hydrogen fuel cell systems as well as prototype controller and wiring harness design and manufacturing
OUR RESPONSE
- Provision of modelling and simulation consultancy to determine the sizing of the fuel cell, battery and hydrogen storage solutions
- Design of fuel cell system control requirements and operational strategy definition.
- Design and manufacture of bespoke electronic controllers and controls system wiring harnesses to UK rail specifications and with supporting documentation for rail certification.
- On train commissioning and support of our control systems through to mainline certification and train entering service.
OUTCOMES
- 500kW fuel cell system, 260kWh battery and 275kg H2 compressed gas storage system integrated on-time and in budget for successful exhibition at COP26 in Glasgow and subsequent main-line certification and trials through 2022/23
